Increased commercial demand for new computer technology has provided a second three-month reprieve for the estimated 500 employees remaining at the local Dell Inc. plant.

On Feb. 18, it reported that it had a 14 percent increase in desktop-computer revenue in the fourth quarter, to $3.4 billion, compared with the third quarter. But it represented just 23 percent of its revenue, compared with 31 percent for laptops that are assembled outside the U.S.

In that report, the company said it "saw demand in the important commercial business continuing to return during the fourth quarter. It is cautiously optimistic that this trend will continue into fiscal-year 2011."

David Wong, an analyst with Wells Fargo Securities LLC, said he believes that Dell is working through many of its recent problems.

"We expect the company to return to gaining market share in the PC market," Wong said. "We believe that management changeovers, new strategies, restructuring, and pricing discipline could enable Dell to begin to demonstrate a sustainable improvement in operating margin."

The plant, which had been scheduled to close in April, will stay open until the end of July, the company announced yesterday.

The Zino HD's ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics make it far from a gaming machine, but most compact PCs aren't designed to tackle anything more complicated than flash in a browser, anyway. You'll be using it to consume content, and the Zino HD will handle high-definition media just fine, whether you're streaming from Hulu or watching DVDs.

The rear of the system delivers a good amount of connectivity for its size--easily greater in its variety than what you?d typically find on a traditional value desktop--and includes two USB slots, one gigabit ethernet port, an HDMI output, two eSATA ports, and a VGA connection. We see the point Dell makes by supporting legacy VGA on its system, given the raw compatibility between DVI and HDMI. Still, isn?t it time we leave this connector in the dust for conventional displays?

The ideal home-theater PC is capable of dishing out high-definition media, while remaining unobtrusive--qualities the Dell Inspiron Zino HD excels at. The miniscule 8-by-8-inch shell will fit about anywhere you can think of, is whisper-quiet, and can hook up to your HDTV or computer monitor using its HDMI or VGA connections. It also has two eSATA ports and four USB slots (perfect for connecting external hard drives full of media), and a multiformat media card reader makes it convenient to view photos on the big screen.

Frink said that Dell has about 400 full-time employees at the plant, as well as contract and temporary workers.

An analyst said that the longer that Dell keeps the 700,000-square-foot plant open, the better the chances that the company could realize that it doesn't need to close it after all.

He cautioned, however, that employees shouldn't get their hopes up too much.

While most of the minidesktops we see use some variant of Intel?s Atom processor lineup, Dell has gone with a dual-core, 1.5-GHz AMD Athlon 3250e CPU. And what a difference this makes. The Inspiron Zino HD scored 59 in our WorldBench 6 test suite, placing it among the best-performing mini-PCs we've tested. It's only when you spend a couple of hundred dollars more that the Zino HD is outperformed by mini-PCs like the $750 Viewsonic VOT530 (which scored 90), or the slightly larger $900 HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor PC (128).

"There is precedent here," said Tim Beyers, an analyst for The Motley Fool, a financial-services company. "When Dell's move to move more of its customer-service operations offshore backfired, they brought portions back.

"They've already cut production drastically, and they are in a position where they need to grow again or die trying," Beyers said. "Because the assembly equipment is still there, making the decision to keep it open would be much easier than if the plant was mothballed."

Interestingly enough, with the decision to keep the plant open through July, Dell moves within two months of what would have been its five-year incentive threshold. After five years, Dell would have been able to keep half of the $26.5 million in local incentives it has paid back.

Dell said last October that it planned to close the plant by Jan. 31, eliminating 905 jobs, as part of an operational restructuring aimed at "simplifying operations and improving efficiency."

That decision came 13 months after The Wall Street Journal reported that Dell was considering selling some or all of its manufacturing plants as part of its intensified effort to cut $4 billion in annual expenses.

The company had started shifting some production from the local plant to operations in Mexico before announcing the plant closing.

Dell, as scheduled, let go of about 400 employees on Nov. 18. However, on Dec. 11, it said that demand had picked up enough to warrant keeping the plant open until April 30.

The Zino HD starts at $250 and scales up to specs that include a 1TB hard disk. The $557 (as of February 1, 2010) configuration we tested had Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 802.11n Wi-Fi (important for streaming HD video), 320GB of storage, and 3GB of DDR2 memory.

David Frink, a Dell spokesman, said that the decision to keep the plant open was based on Dell's need to "balance its global manufacturing capacity to meet customer needs."

"Employees who elect to stay through July will be paid for their work and receive a retention bonus," Frink said. "Employees who elect to leave will receive their retention bonus from our initial extension, as well as their severance package."

Bob Leak Jr., the president of Winston-Salem Business Inc., said that Dell's decision to continue local production is great news for employees.

"The decisions have not hampered any efforts that we have to promote the facility to potential users," Leak said. Dell said it likely would require three months to remove equipment.

"Most projects take four to six months to make a final decision," Leak said. "That would give Dell plenty of time to finish operations and vacate the facility when we have a company that is interested."

Imagine you've payed a hundred dollars for a gaming keyboard, with all the extras you need to make your gaming sessions better but soon you find out it's hard to type on, it makes a lot of noise, buttons don't press well and your hands are tired. Now you understand what frustration means and feel like throwing the keyboard out the window.

Believe it or not, this is a pretty common scenario, but I got just the things to do to ensure this doesn't happen to you. Hear me out in the following post and you'll greatly decrease the chance to throw your hard earned money out the window.

What to do to not get robbed when buying a gaming keyboard?

We all know what to look for in a keyboard for games when it comes to special functions for games: macro keys, options for customisability, backlight, wrist pad, multimedia keys and a good price, but not all of us need all that. For those who need to use the keyboard all the time it's important for other factors to be considered when choosing a gaming keyboard and those are:

    * How fast can I type on it
    * How hard do I have to hit the keys to register a press (most gaming keyboard have long throw keys so they're not good for typing)
    * How high is the keyboard: a low profile can help with your hand to rest better during prolonged use sessions
    * How noisy is the keyboard: if no one can sleep in the same room when you're typing it's wrong again.

Those are the most important things you need to look for in a gaming keyboard meant to be used all the time, not only for games. There's also the option of purchasing a second office keyboard but I don't believe it's too convenient to swap keyboards all the day, but maybe it's the only solution for some.

Best gaming keyboard is the article where you're presented with the most important keyboards for games found at the moment on market. Just choose the one that fits your style and budget.

Dell Inc. says its net income fell 6 percent in the most recent quarter. Consumers snapped up low-cost laptops and smaller netbooks over the holidays. But businesses, which account for about half of Dell's revenue, still haven't markedly increased spending on new computers.

The iPad will sport a 10-inch display, while the Dell Mini 5 will have a 5-inch one with a WVGA (800 by 480 pixel) resolution. This will be a capacitive Touchscreen with support for multi-touch.

Apple's tablet will use its iPhone OS, but Dell's will run Google's Android OS on a 1 GHz processor. The prototype of the mini 5 that has been shown around for the last month or so runs the older OS 1.6, but unconfirmed reports say it will debut with something more recent, possibly version 2.1.

Operating income increased 12% to $510m, while EPS fell 6% to $0.17. Cash flow from operations was $1.3bn during the quarter.

The company said mobility revenue increased 16% to $4.7bn, while desktop PC revenue fell 3% to $3.4bn. Software and peripherals revenue remained flat at $2.5bn, while servers and networking revenue increased 26% to $1.8bn. Services revenue increased 51% to $1.9bn, while storage revenue fell 15% to $599m.

The company said large enterprise revenue increased 8% to $4.2bn, while public revenue increased 16% to $3.8bn. Small and medium business revenue increased 10% to $3.3bn, while consumer revenue increased 11% to $3.55bn.

During the quarter, the company strengthened its smartphone strategy by announcing collaboration with AT&T to offer a smartphone from its Mini 3 Android-based line, and agreements with Vodafone, M1, Starhub, Maxis, China Mobile and Claro. It also planned to cut 700 jobs at its Malaysian plant, and agreed to sell its PC manufacturing plant in Poland and transfer 1,600 employees to Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn.

For fiscal 2010, the company reported a 42% decline in net income to $1.4bn, compared to $2.5bn in fiscal 2009. Revenue was down 13% at $52.9bn.

From November through January, Dell says earnings slipped to $334 million, or 17 cents per share. That is down from $351 million, or 18 cents per share, a year ago.

Revenue increased 11 percent to $14.9 billion.

Dell's results roughly tracked Wednesday's report from its larger competitor Hewlett-Packard Co., which said it sees corporate PC buying picking up in the second half of the year.

Brian Gladden, chief financial officer at Dell, said: We achieved solid revenue growth in every part of our business. Our commercial units are well poised for profitable growth as demand continues to return for higher-value, higher-margin servers, storage systems and services. For the full year, we generated $3.9bn cash flow from operations, twice the amount in the prior year.

According to OSHA, "Keyboards, pointing devices, or working surfaces that are too high or too low can lead to awkward wrist, arm, and shoulder postures. For example, when keyboards are too low you may type with your wrists bent up, and when keyboards are too high, you may need to raise your shoulders to elevate your arms. Performing keying tasks in awkward postures such as these can result in hand, wrist, and shoulder discomfort."

The safety experts go on to suggest that "a keyboard tray may be needed if the work surface or chair cannot be properly adjusted [to achieve the correct height]. The keyboard tray should be adjustable in height and tilt, provide adequate leg and foot clearance, and have adequate space for multiple input devices (for example, a keyboard and pointer/mouse)."

Versa Products, Inc., the popular manufacturer of computer desks and computer desk accessories, takes OSHA's guidelines very seriously. "There are people who sit and use a computer 8 - 12 hours every day," says Christopher Stormer, Director of Marketing at Versa. "We wanted to provide products for them that makes that work comfortable, reduces fatigue, and all but eliminates the risk of repetitive use injuries like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome."

And it's with that sentiment that Versa offers several options in keyboard arms and trays. "Our keyboard trays and articulating keyboard arms can be added to almost any desk, so the customer doesn't need to buy one of our desks simply to upgrade his or her workstation and make it ergonomic."

Of course, as the Director of Marketing, Stormer would like customers to buy Versa's desks as well, but it's not essential. "A lot of companies force you to buy their desks because those are the only products their keyboard arms are compatible with. It's a way to force people to upgrade and spend more when they don't necessarily want to. At Versa, we don't need to do that. People who buy one product from us, tend to come back and buy more later on. We don't need to dupe them into spending as much money as they can right now. We know our products are superior and as soon as the customer buys one, they see that too."

Versa's products are superior and still affordable, especially if you're buying in quantity to furnish an entire office suite or classroom. Without the discounts, Versa's Deluxe Keyboard Drawer starts at $69 and the Basic Keyboard Arm and Tray starts at $99.

Versa's keyboard trays and arms come with Versa's lifetime warranty-as does all of their products. There are also a multitude of color options so matching with an existing color scheme is easy. Their products ship for free from their Los Angeles-based factory and warehouse, and all products are made in the U.S.A.

"We make products that fit with OSHA standards and the current ergonomic guidelines. Those guidelines are always changing and being improved as new information becomes available. We adjust our products constantly to meet those standards and that's part of the reason we have the good reputation we have."

Would you like to install a new keyboard in your Dell NSK-D9301 laptop ? It's relatively easy even for inexperienced users. In my guide I'll be replacing a damaged Dell NSK-D9301 Laptop Keyboard with a new one I got here for less than $20 from everbatt.com. Before you start do not forget to turn off the laptop and remove the battery.

Remove one screw securing the keyboard. This screw is located between the lock/unlock and release latches.

Insert a small flat head screwdriver between the keyboard and base. Carefully lift up the keyboard as it shown on the picture below.

Move the keyboard and place it on the display panel so you can access components underneath.Carefully lift up the keyboard from the base and move it up so you can access the keyboard cable.

Before you remove the keyboard, you'll have to unlock the cable connector on the motherboard and release the cable. Be very careful. The keyboard connector is permanently attached to the motherboard. If you accidentally damage the connector, you'll have to replace the whole motherboard. The connector opens up like a door. You can open the connector with your fingernail.

Unlock the connector and release the keyboard cable.

Now you can remove the keyboard and replace it with a new one if needed.

Steps to install a new Dell NSK-D9301 keyboard is much easyier since you know how to remove one. But here I will show you some basic guide.

Take the new dell keyboard and attach the keyboard cable to the connector, and push the connector down. Slide the new keyboard in. Replace the keyboard shield.

Flip the HP laptop back over. Replace the set of five black plastic screws, and then the three silver screws. Replace the RAM cover.

After intall it well, please check it and you may meet the following situations.

1. If your keyboard is not responding, check to see that the connector is securely plugged into the correct port in the computer and your computer is plugged in and turned on. Also, check to see if there are any breaks or sharp twists in the keyboard cable.
2. If your keyboard is not responding correctly, check to see that the correct keyboard driver is installed in your system.]

Dell offers straightforward documentation that covers basic features and setup along with some fairly detailed troubleshooting sections, but it provides no information about the bundled software. The good but slim software collection includes PowerDVD DX for movie watching, the excellent Roxio Creator for disc burning and backup, and a handful of Dell ControlPoint utilities for setting up security, power management, and data connections.

Dell has been in the laptop game for a long time, and the company's experience shows with the E4300. This model strikes a good balance between portability, expandability, computing power, and battery life. If you're in the market for a well-built laptop that will work nicely on your desk or on a road trip, the Dell Latitude E4300 might be perfect for you.

Dell said CMS experience in iSCSI SANs was key to the appointment.

CMS Peripherals has an exceptional reputation within its partner base as a true storage specialist and is therefore an ideal candidate to help Dell grow its EqualLogic business, Dell said.

The keyboard isn't the only thing to like here, as the E4300 sports an excellent trackpad with five buttons, scroll margins, and detailed customization software. And if you want an alternative way to move the mouse pointer, Dell has you covered: The low-profile "track stick" centered in the keyboard is easily manipulated by an index finger. It has good feel and response, but no clicking capability.

A few other buttons on the E4300 are worth noting. One, the slick "Latitude On" button, triggers Dell's branded version of the DeviceVM Splashtop technology, which lets you quickly check e-mail, contact, and calendar info without fully booting up the computer; it's an extremely handy feature for the business traveler. On the downside, the keys for volume control and muting are small, awkwardly placed, and very stiff.

The problematic audio controls aren't a dealbreaker if you're uninterested in multimedia, especially since the E4300 has surprisingly thin sound. In our tests the E4300 produced a lot of clipping on low bass, which is typical for small laptop speakers, but that shortcoming combined with distortion in the mids and highs makes the E3400 barely passable for even basic presentation audio. Listening to CDs and movie soundtracks through the built-in speakers was more pain than pleasure.

Dell spent last year moving closer to distribution across the globe and in March fuelled speculation that it may move to appoint a broadliner in the UK when it forged US ties with Ingram Micro and Tech Data around its PCs.

Back in November, CRN exclusively revealed that Dell was looking to add a second distributor for its storage kit, alongside incumbent Hammer.

As for raw computing power, the E4300's got guts. Our review unit came with an Intel Core Duo P9400 processor running at 2.4GHz, backed by 3GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory and Windows Vista Home Basic (you can opt for other OSs; prices for the system start at $1299, as of February 3, 2010). The E4300 posted a solid WorldBench 6 score of 98, easily landing in the front half among the all-purpose laptops we've recently reviewed. On the other hand, don't count on the Intel 4500MHD graphics chipset to take you far on most games--it just isn't robust enough. Travelers will appreciate the battery's longevity: In our tests, the E4300 managed to last for 5 hours, 27 minutes with its upgraded six-cell lithium ion battery. Keep in mind that the larger battery sticks out from the back of the chassis, adding extra bulk; fortunately, the arrangement isn't as awkward as that on some other laptops with beefed-up batteries.

The distributor in question was thought to be storage specialist CMS and the duo will formally announce their partnership tomorrow.

CMS will also provide a range of value-add services to partners, including training, marketing support and credit terms.

At first glance, you might mistake the Dell Latitude E4300 for an earlier-vintage laptop: Its sharp lines and subtle finish stick out in today's world of glossy gadgets with rounded corners. That's not to say the E4300 isn't a handsome portable, however--it did grow on me. Even better, the matte finish isn't a magnet for fingerprints, dust, and smudges like every iPhone-inspired design on the market. If you don't care about hip style trends that come and go, the vaguely retro E4300 is a pretty sweet all-purpose laptop that can serve you well for general office computing.

Underneath the magnesium-alloy chassis, you'll find a lot of nuances that make the E4300 a well-thought-out piece of equipment. For one thing, the keyboard is a dream to type on. The keys have a pretty long travel, but it's coupled with just the right amount of click at the end. You'll also appreciate the smart key layout. Half-size F1-F12 keys open up room for generous Enter, Shift, Alt, and Ctrl keys. The arrow keys are also arranged in their logical order right next to PgUp and PgDn for easy navigation through documents, spreadsheets, forms, and Web pages. In addition, the key backlighting is just right, not too dim or too bright.

You want expansion? You got it. A good selection of ports for peripherals and expansion slots rounds out the E4300. You'll find all the usual suspects, including one USB port, ethernet, VGA-out, headphone and microphone ports, and a combo e-SATA/USB connection. A FireWire mini-port is also included for convenience, but it's probably the only port that you won't use often. On the plus side, the E4300 also has slots for SD Card, ExpressCard, and smart cards.

In today's widescreen world, the E4300's traditional 4:3 screen ratio is less than ideal for watching movies, which is okay considering that this system is more of a workhorse computer. Even so, juggling multiple windows when you're multitasking would work slightly better with a 16:9 widescreen. Thankfully, the LED-backlit 13.3-inch screen has very even lighting from dim to bright settings, and in our tests the default color settings were nearly perfect. Blacks weren't quite as deep as those of some of the better laptop screens we've seen, but overall the E4300's video was quite good: Balanced, accurate colors made watching movies fun, while document and Web text looked quite sharp.

However, Dell has yet to turn to a broadliner for PCs and servers and one distribution source, who wished to remain anonymous, said: EqualLogic is so different from Dells product range that I wouldnt use this as an indication of its wider distribution strategy.

It is important to take care of your laptop to keep it in good shape; prevention is always better than cure. There are a number of easy things that you can do to keep your laptop in great shape; following these easy steps will help to ensure that it lasts longer and will need less maintenance. As an added bonus, many of the steps will also maintain your laptops speed.

Use an old tooth brush to clean the area around the exhaust fan screen. If that gets plugged up, air flow is diminished and overheating can most certainly occur

Keep liquids and food away from your laptop. As tempting as it might be to drink coffee, soda, water or any other liquid near your laptop, accidents can happen all too easily. Spilled liquids may damage the internal components or cause electrical injury to the laptop. Short circuits can corrupt data or even permanently destroy parts. The solution is very simple: Keep your drinks away from your computer. Even if you're careful, someone else might bump into your desk or you. Or you can use a cup with a cover on it, so even if it does spill, the liquid doesn't go any where! Don't eat over your laptop. The crumbs can go down between the keys in the keyboard and provide an invitation to small bugs. The crumbs can also irritate the circuitry. Worse, it makes the laptop look dirty if there are crumbs and food stains on it.

Don't expose your laptop rapid temperature fluctuations. When bringing your laptop indoors during winter, don't turn it on immediately. Instead, let it warm to room temperature first. This will avoid any potential for damage to the disk drive from condensation forming inside the machine.

Don't expose your laptop rapid temperature fluctuations. When bringing your laptop indoors during winter, don't turn it on immediately. Instead, let it warm to room temperature first. This will avoid any potential for damage to the disk drive from condensation forming inside the machine.

Protect the LCD display monitor. When you shut your laptop, make sure there are no small items, such as a pencil or small ear-phones, on the keyboard. These can damage the display screen when shut; the screen will scratch if the item is rough. Close the lid gently and holding from the middle. Closing the lid using only one side causes pressure on that hinge, and over time can cause it to bend and snap.

Have the unit cleaned once a year to remove internal dust. Get this done by a computer professional. If dust accumulates, the system cannot cool itself correctly. Heat can destroy the motherboard.

Check to see if labels are affixed securely before inserting media into your laptop computer. Media such as CDs, DVDs or floppy disks should not have any loose label parts that might jam inside the laptop drive. Never insert undersized CDs, as these can damage the disk player permanently.

Don't roll your chair over the computer cord. Stick the cord onto your desk with tape or a special computer cord tie which can be easily undone when you've finished using the laptop. Always try to keep most of the cord away from the floor or your legs; sometimes you can be so engrossed in what you're doing that you move your legs and forget the cord is there.

Use and store in a well circulated area. When your using your laptop, do so in a place that has a constant air-circulation. Lots of people ruin thier laptop by using it in an enclosed area and thus making the laptop overheat. It also helps if you store in a well circulated area.

Tips

    * Develop a preventive maintenance schedule to prevent problems rather than fixing them after they happen
    * Keep a record of your laptop computer details, such as serial number, make and model so that you can report theft or loss promptly.
    * If you are working, you may have an opportunity to choose your laptop computer based on your requirements - for example, a sturdy model for rough use or a light one for frequent travel.
    * You can make an easy screen protector from a thin piece of floppy foam cut the size of your screen. Place this between the base and top of your laptop each time that you turn off the laptop and close it. Do not leave it in there if the laptop is only sleeping or is not turned off. If the laptop overheats, this foam may cause the laptop to combust.
    * You can make your own laptop case simply using items such as 2 pieces of cardboard joined together with strong tape and insert bubble wrap, or even a pillow slip, in between the cardboard. Make sure you get the measurements accurate! Or recycle an old bag - pad it well and size it down to fit your laptop securely.
    * Look into laptop insurance. Look for sites on the internet but beware the "Zero excess" or "no excess" claim of a few.
    * Put a label with your name, e-mail, cell phone number or other contact details on the laptop, the powercord and any other removable parts.
    * Keep your laptop in a open area that has air circulation, when in use.

Acer announced on Tuesday that its GD235HZ LCD display is ready for Nvidia's 3D Vision system. Sporting a tasty 120 Hz refresh rate, the 23.6-inch display will attempt to bring a new level of PC gaming to your rig.

For the uninitiated, Nvidia's 3D Vision system includes active-shutter glasses, a wireless USB transmitter, and software that transforms "hundreds" of games into a 3D experience.

PC gamers wanting a little 3D action from Nvidia can purchase the 3D Vision Kit for an additional $199 via online retail outlets such as Newegg and more. Currently Acer's LCD panel hasn't shown up online, but stay tuned.

Acer on Tuesday introduced new smartphone series ‘Liquid’, promising outstanding multimedia, web browsing, social media integration and video streaming capabilities. Priced at Rs. 24,900, ‘Liquid’ is the world’s first Qualcomm Snapdragon processor-based and world’s first Android 1.6 high definition smartphone, combining cutting-edge technologies, software innovation and an ultra-fluid user interface to create an all-new mobile experience.

Addressing a press conference here, Acer Smart Handheld Business Group (SHBG)’s India Country Head Richard Tan said: “Liquid exemplifies speed in style and will please the style-seeking smartphone consumer.

Available from Staples, the Acer Aspire AS7740-5691 ($649.98 list) offers a spacious 17.3-inch HD display, a dual-core CPU, and a few nice entertainment features. However, as is the case with most budget notebooks, there are trade-offs. While the integrated graphics helps keep the price down, the laptop has limited 3D capabilities. Additionally, the screen is only capable of displaying high-definition content at 720p rather than the full 1080p resolution. And of course, you have to put up with the inevitable barrage of bloatware that seems to accompany every affordable multimedia notebook these days. That said, the Aspire AS7740-5691 is still a good choice for budget-conscious consumers seeking a big-screen desktop replacement system.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon running Android 1.6, the smartphone delivers real-time ubiquitous communication and location-aware content.”

It also bolsters a set of unique features developed by Acer and its partners that include improved power management, a new user interface.

"We see a strong market for 3D technology products that offer the quality and value that Acer is known for providing, as we’ve demonstrated with our Acer notebook with 3D technology and now with this new Acer GD235HZ display," said Irene Chan, senior product marketing manager for peripherals, Acer America.

Available this month for $399.99, Acer's GD235HZ LCD offers a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The LCD also offers a 80,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a 1000:1 native contrast ratio, a pixel pitch of 0.2715mm, and a response time of 2ms (G to G). The LCD also provides one HDMI input (w/HDMI), one DVI input, and one VGA input.

Order a replacement key for your Acer Aspire 6920G Keyboard. Key sizes vary by manufacturer if you have lost the key. Order retainers also if they are needed. When the new key arrives , do the following. (That is assuing you need a new key.) Pry a nearby key near the one that fell off of the keyboard.. (Try not to break anything in the process.) Examine how the retainer attaches to the key. Place this key back onto the keyboard.

Pick up the retainer if need it and place it on the area where you will put the replacement key. Place the retainer over the button that detects the key press. The retainer should fit snugly over this button on most laptops. Do not force the button.

Replace the button you pried off to determine how the keys were connected. Snap it back on. Take the replacement key for the laptop you ordered and place it pack on the same way you replaced the key next to it. When it is back on properly, you should hear a firm snap. Turn the computer back on and see if the keys you removed from the keyboard work. If the replaced key does not work after you have replaced it, check the key to make sure the new key was installed properly.

Sometimes it may be necessary to replace the entire keyboard of a laptop. This procedure requires taking apart the case, unhooking the cord that attaches the keyboard and carefully removing the keyboard from the computer. Working on laptops requires skill and patience. People engaging in laptop repair must be careful not to damage nearby components when removing the keyboard. The basic process requires attaching the cable for the keyboard back to the case, laying it down, and placing the case back together.

When a key falls off your Acer Aspire 6920G Keyboard it is troublesome, but a keyboard can be easily replaced. When a key falls off a laptop, the problem is much worse, since the keyboard is part of the computer. Therefore, it is important for laptop owners to know how to fix a key in case one comes loose and falls off.

Tips:

    * Do not try to push the key back in place right away, until you are sure the key retainer is in place properly. Attempting o push the key with the retainer still attached back into place can bend the metal housing making it impossible to get the key back in place.
    * Do not try to force anything to hard. The only part that will require a little force is snapping the key back in place after the retainer is set properly.
    * If the key came out, but the retainer is still attached, just snap the key back in place.
    * If the retainer or the bindings on the keyboard key itself become damaged, using a drop of superglue can bind things in place--but the key might not sit or type exactly the same as all the other keys.

step 1

Pick up the key and any other parts that fell loose. Make sure you don't lose anything.

Step 2

Detach the key retainer from the key. The retainer is usually a coupe little plastic pieces that can move, and that snap into the key. If the retainer is still attached to the keyboard in its metal bindings, keep it there.

Step 3

Remove another key to observe how the retainer fits into the bindings. Usually it involves slipping one part under a metal hook or groove, then snapping the opposite side in place. You don't always have to remove another key if you can figure out how to do it yourself.

Step 4

Once the retainer is in place, snap the key back on by pressing it into the retainer.

Learn how to take screenshots of your internal computer problems, so that the people at Microsoft and other troubleshooting services can help you solve your problems much faster and more efficiently. It is also just fun to take screenshots and butcher your screen or set up "ghost desktops" to mess with your parents or friends.

Tips

    * If you want to take screenshot of just the active window (the one that's most on top and activated), press "Alt - Print Screen". This means, you should hold down the Alt key and then press the Print Screen key.

    * A quicker way of accessing Microsoft Paint can be achieved by pressing the Windows key (Between "Ctrl" and "Alt" on Acer Aspire 4230 Keyboard") and "R", then typing 'mspaint' in the box that appears.
    * Many laptops, to conserve keyboard space, have mapped the "PrtSc" key as a primary or secondary function on a shared key. To take a screenshot with "PrtSc" mapped to a key as a secondary function, you will need to locate your notebook's function key (usually labeled "Fn" and located along the bottom row) and engage it before touching "PrtSc."
    * Depending on your version of Windows, Paint will allow you to save the screenshot in different formats.
o BMP is the default option (a lossless uncompressed format)
o PNG is a lossless compressed format
o JPEG is a lossy, compressed image format, specifically developed for photographic images. For these images, it allows for the smallest file size. When used for non-photographic images, file size is larger than e.g. PNG and GIF and the image has a lower quality.
o GIF is good for applications windows with a limited number of colors
    * If you plan on putting your screenshot on a website, be sure it does not exceed a suggested size limit
      An unsuccessful attempt.

    * It is also possible to pause an internet video and make a screenshot of it. In this way you can create a still from a video, e.g. from youtube.
o As a rule your video player allows to make the video full screen and high quality, and to stop at the frame you want.
o This capturing method may not work if you play the video from version 11 or newer from Windows Media Player.
o You can use additional software to simplify process of screenshoting.

THERE CAN OnLY BE ONE HIGHLANDER

Steps

In Windows XP

      1
      Press the "Prnt Scrn" button.

      2
Open Microsoft Paint. To do this, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint. Click inside the white part of the screen.

      3
Go to the Edit menu and click Paste or you can press and hold "Ctrl" and tap V. Then you may crop if you like.

      4
Click File > Save As. In the box that pops up, change the "Save As Type" to PNG or JPG. Type in a filename for your image. Choose a place to save, like the Desktop, and click save.

      5
You have now successfully taken a screenshot! If you want to send your image to somebody, simply attach the .png file that you just saved to an email and send it along. Alternatively, you can upload it onto the internet by visiting a site like TinyPic.com and uploading it.

In Windows Vista

      1
In Windows Vista (except in Home Basic), there is a tool called the Snipping Tool.
          * To open it, click on the start menu, type snip, then hit enter (the latest version of Windows Vista updates the search results as you type each letter).

      2
      Click on Snipping Tool.

      3
The Snipping Tool opens, and a white mask is applied on the screen. In the drop-down menu for the 'New' button, choose from a free-form snip, rectangular snip, window snip, or full-screen snip.

      4
In free-form snip mode, draw around the area you want to be captured. Drag a rectangle in rectangular snip mode. For window snip mode, select the window you want to capture. In full-screen mode, just selecting it from the drop-down menu makes the capture.

      5
The snipped image is then opened within the Snipping Tool, but is also copied to the Windows clipboard for use in other applications.

In Windows 7

If you want to take screenshots in Windows 7 it comes with little program called Snipping Tool, which can be found in the Start Menu/All Programs/Accessories.

You can take a screenshot of the entire screen, a window or just a selection of the screen, that you select.

Warnings

    * Saving a screenshot in some file types (such as bitmaps) will result in a very large file.
    * Some people will be annoyed if you email them a large attachment, remember to crop and convert.
